We're still here!

For His Glory Ministry Prayer Update – September 2010
Praise:
Praise to God our heavenly Father in heaven – Angel’s surgery went well although it was a long day; he came out just the trooper.  Even as they rolled him past the waiting room on the way to his room to pick me up, he managed to give me a smile and kiss.  The downside of the surgery is his having to wear a neck brace for 12 weeks.  As of today he has made it through his first week and a half, only 10 ½ more to go!
We thank all of our friends and family for the prayers that went up for him and continue to go up for us.  We made it through one hurdle, several more to get through but it is refreshing to know our Lord only gives us as much as we can handle.
We are especially thankful to Pastor Joe and Elaine Scott for the sacrifice of opening their home to us for such a length of time during Angel’s recovery. We are blessed beyond measure!
Prayer requests:

October 18th, Angel starts his radiation.  It will entail 9 weeks of radiation, Monday thru Friday not including weekends and holidays.  Thankfully the VA will be putting us up in the hotel again.  Pray for the radiation to work and for a quick healing by the power of the Spirit of God of the prostate cancer.

Many have asked us how they can help.  It is very hard for us to ask this but as you pray, would you also pray to see if our Lord would have you partner with us financially.  We need you more than ever during this season of our ministry.  Please know that we understand if you cannot and are truly appreciative for your faithfulness in prayer.  Together we are making a difference in the lives of so many who are hungry to know that there is a love out there and His name is Jesus.
We still need prayer for wisdom as to the exact date of Karen’s return to Peru and the finances to cover her airfare and transport back to Moyobamba.
Continue to lift up Pastor Enrique and the Nazarene church plant in Nuevo Progreso as Angel’s plans to serve with him in evangelizing and raising leaders has been put on hold for now. Pray he remains focused and encouraged as he presses forward in the work of the Holy Spirit there.
Pray for the Pastoras who are anxiously awaiting Karen’s return. She also had a conversation with Julio, the English teacher she helps, and they are anxious for her to get back and start teaching English in the institute.
Our time is in the hands of our Lord and we are walking these days out one day at a time, savoring our time with family and friends and drawing ever closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we step out in this new level of faith He is raising us up to.  We want you to know we have nothing but peace and trust in Him and pray that our lives will continue to be a reflection of His great and deep love for His children and the world.
Until October 18th we can be reached at 727-847-2694 or 386-837-4961.

Prayer Update for September

Praise:
Every day we stand amazed at His great love! As many of you know Angel and I have been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride after arriving in the states. His surgery date is September 7th at 7am and we have been back and forth w/all the preparations necessary for the VA to set this all up. One of the perks, we discovered, was that because we live so far we are entitled to a stay overnite at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tampa courtesy of the VA.
Friday, Sept 3rd, Angel needs to be at the VA for his pre-ops at 8am. So Today, Thursday the 2nd, we registered at the hotel, opened the door to our room and stood at the door in awe! It is the most beautiful suite with microwave, refrigerator, living room/dining area, king-sized bed…..more than we ever imagined. With tears in our eyes we immediately began to thank our heavenly Father, praising His name for His great goodness. We are truly humbled and in awe!

Prayer requests:
September 7th, is Angel’s surgery. Please be in prayer for an easy surgery and quick recovery. Many have asked what kind of surgery Angel is having and I happened to find a website that gave a perfect explanation and even helped us to understand more clearly what we are in for.
Two weeks after Angel’s surgery he will be starting the procedure for radiation on his pelvic area for the prostate cancer. So all in all he will be in Florida for at least 9 weeks.
We have had to cancel our flights back to Peru and are still waiting on making a decision as to when I (Karen) will fly back or if I’ll wait for Angel’s radiation to be completed. More than likely I’ll have to fly back to Peru before Angel to take care of the finances etc. Please pray that we will have wisdom and peace in the making of this decision.
September 5th is the annual Bible March in Moyobamba, Peru. Please pray for a great outpouring of Christians to the streets, for hearts to be pierced and for the name of Jesus Christ to be lifted high!
Many have asked what type of surgery Angel is having so I looked it up online and actually found a site that really explained it in detail even helping us to understand more clearly what he is in for. If you would like to know too you can look up this site: http://www.mayfieldclinic.com/PE-ACDF.htm
We thank all of you for the prayers, support and words of encouragement we have been receiving. Know you are truly loved, appreciated and prayed for.

Angel's Surgery - Sept 7th

We want to thank everyone who has been supporting us in prayer during this journey we have been on since arriving in the states in July. After all of Angel's exams, Mri, Cat scan, bone scan etc it was determined that he has a compression pressing on his spinal cord at the base of his neck. He needs immediate surgery. We finally received the news that Angel's surgery on his neck/spine is Sept 7th. Two weeks after his surgery they will begin the preliminaries for radiation on his pelvic area for the prostate cancer. Our greatest need at the moment is a place to stay for about a month and a half during this process.

We were hoping for a guest house/somewhere private near the VA Hosp where Angel could recuperate but at this point whatever is available would be so appreciated. If you know of anything please let us know. the location would need phone access so we could receive calls from the doctors etc too.

You can comment here or on our facebook.
We know God is in control and appreciate all your prayers and love.....in His love...Angel & Karen

Greatest Birthday Gift

The goodness of our God amazes me every day! At this moment I am sitting in Hollywood Florida at my Aunt Betty Lou's house listening to my sister catch up with our cousin Phyllis (they're the same age and grew up together). We haven't seen them for more than 30 years. I am so blessed and at peace seeing Aunt Betty as she is living right next to her other daughter Crystal whom we have met for the first time.
In all we do if we recognize His goodness and seek His will in all things He never fails to bring blessings in abundance. I never imagined I'd be seeing my aunt again.
The way to pace and victory is to accept every circumstance and every trial as being straight from the hand of our loving Father; to live "with Him in heavenly realms" (Eph 2:6), above the clouds, in the very presence of His throne; and to look down from glory on our circumstances as being lovingly and divinely appointed."
This day I pray you: Draw on His strength, Bask in His presence, Becoming a vessel where His Light will shine like a beacon in the night for all the world to know and every tongue and tribe to believe on the One who died for us on that cold dark night on Calvary.

Sacariaz Receives His New Wheels

What a story we have about this wheelchair donated by P.E.T. (Personal Energy Transportation) Ministry!  The South Tampa Medical Team brought the chair with them for which we had planned to have them put it together and present it to Sacariaz the following Friday of their arrival.  Sacariaz is an 18 year old university student who lost his left leg to polio. This PET chair offers him the mobility to not only get around town but to attend his classes without having to walk with his crutch or take motortaxis.
The main part of the chair arrived with the team but the suitcase that had the other tires and tools remained in Atlanta only to be flown all the way to London then back to Atlanta then finally to Lima but not in time for the team presentation.  Thankfully, Angel was able to go with Jeff, the team leader, to customs the night the team was returning to the states and with much pleading was allowed to bring the suitcase back to Moyobamba with him.  Saturday, July 3rd, we presented Sacariaz with his new set of wheels and a bible.  He was so excited and truly blessed by this chair.  We were abundantly blessed to be able to present him with it and thank PET ministry and STF for bringing it to Peru.
We ask that you pray for us to come up with a solution in being able to provide customs with the new paperwork available with the signatures they are requesting from now on.  It will require someone going to Lima before each team to claim what is coming into the country. Not an easy task, costly for us missionaries and will not only affect us but the rest of MVI missionaries in Peru.  We believe God for favor and quick answers to this potential problem.

We also ask your prayers in something our Lord laid on Karen's heart for their return...to start a bible study with the recipients of these chairs. Looking forward to what our Lord has in store for His special ones.

This week has been amazing for us as we have been able to be a conduit of blessing for so many. October of 2009, we had a team come to serve in Nuevo Progreso while the women on the team held a health workshop for the women of Moyobamba. During that time we visited a village called Yantelo and planned on holding a baby workshop for young teenage moms but due to the lack of follow through on the clinic's part we returned to Moyobamba with a suitcase full of gifts and educational books on caring for your baby during and after pregnancy.
During the Medical clinic we recently held in Nuevo Progreso and Santa Catalina we had the team give out the gifts and books to any first time moms. Yet we returned with a half a suitcase of books and gifts.Today we went to the hospital and had the great joy of delivering some more of the gifts and books to the new moms and blessed the hospital with what was left to give to future moms. The director of the maternity ward was so happy to receive these gifts and loved the books called "Mama y Bebe" .."Mother and Baby"..and said he would like to use one of the books to have a meeting with the other obstetricians to share the information on nutrition and how to encourage the mothers to understand the birthing process and what to expect the first year of the baby's life. What a great day in the Lord as we not only handed out the gifts but were able to pray for each one of these new moms and their precious treasures. God's name was lifted high and we were walking on clouds! I am always blessed to be such a conduit for His love!
Of course none of this would happen without the donations we receive from our partners and teams who come to visit and labor in the loveof                                           our Lord with us. To God be all the glory!

After the Team

Our friends from South Tampa Fellowship have arrived safely home and are not returning back to the normalcy of life after a week of canoes, hiking & laying hands on the sick.  What an amazing team! All totaled they ministered to 500 patients between the two villages and saw  30 commitments made to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

We have yet to rest, except for our one day in Tarapoto where Angel was blessed by his lovely wife (me) with a wonderful massage that rendered him asleep on the table and sawing wood!  Upon our arrival home the fun of washing donated clothing, disinfecting & putting up all the plates, utensils, cups, and separating the leftover meds to be donated was priority on our list.

We were able to donate medicines and scrubs to the San Lucas Clinic near our home and as many of  you know we have a passion for the police officers who bravely serve in Moyobamba and were blessed to be able to bring them some medications, fungus salves, ibuprophen, eye drops etc to fill their medicine cabinet which is virtually empty.

We also had the pleasure of blessing two of the female officers, who are pregnant, each with a 9 month supply of prenatal vitamins.

What a day we've had today!

A Child's Cry!

This week we have been so busy with the South Tampa Fellowship Medical Team that came to serve with us in two villages; Nuevo Progreso and Santa Catalina. They have been touching so many lives with the love of Christ through the medical attention, free medicines and time of fun, games and even polaroid pictures some patients even got to keep. The pictures were a real treat since most of the villagers have never had access to a camera before let alone printed pictures.
Monday morning Lily Marilu came for a doctor visit.  Some of you may recall our picture of her last year.  Lily is a 16 year old mentally retarded girl being raised by her 70 plus year old grandparents.  Monday it appeared that her mother was with her which was surprising since we didn't realize she even lived in Nuevo Progreso.  Well sadly, Lily Marilu became the rape victim of a young man who has since disappeared and she became pregnant giving birth to a little girl.  Her baby is 2 months old but Lily has not been breast feeding her regularly and the poor baby is starving.  One of our nurses, Jenny, took the time and patiently showed Lily how to feed the baby. Lily's mother was right there. She told Angel that Lily isn't producing enough milk for the baby. Jenny explained that the more Lily breast feeds the more milk will be produced.  Angel shared with Lily's mother that if the baby isn't getting the breast milk she would need to buy the baby formula to give her to which she responded that the canned formula was too expensive. Angel looked her in the eye and shared with her that in the way they buy other things this needs to be a priority or the baby will die.  Lily's mom shrugged her shoulders as if to say ,'then she dies'.
We believe since it was a rape, they could care less if the baby lives or dies.  We ask that you intercede for ,this baby's life, for Lily Marilu that someone will take her under their wing to care for that baby, and for her family that they will be convicted of this blatant abuse.

The team arrives from the villages today!  Will be updating pictures soon.
